Autoimmune Advocacy: Health Innovation Leaders (Part II)

In my mission to connect with autoimmune advocates, I have also collaborated with forerunners of patient advocacy and healthcare innovation. Advocacy spans beyond social media, and delves into the sectors of digital health, consulting, and innovation. In this second part, we’ll dive deeper into the dynamic world of advocacy, where new leaders and innovators are revolutionizing the patient community!

Patient Experience and Healthcare Communication Specialists

Firstly, Amanda Osowski is a notable figure with over a decade of experience in healthcare communication. As a patient experience leader and copywriter, she leverages her writing skills to highlight narrative medicine. Narrative medicine uses personal narratives to improve patient care and health outcomes by allowing healthcare professionals to understand patients beyond their symptoms, fostering a more compassionate and effective care environment. This enables professionals to tailor personalized, multifaceted approaches for patients, addressing a range of needs including medical, emotional, psychological, etc. Additionally, her work spans several health professionals and organizations like the Autoimmune Association and Patient Authentic. Rheumission is proud to stand beside her as a champion of narrative medicine’s mission to amplify the patient’s voice and deeply understand their autoimmune disease experience.

Health Branding and Healthcare Design Experts

Sarah Stern is a force to be reckoned with in the autoimmune disease space. With her unparalleled passion and efforts, she’s reshaping health branding and making healthcare information more accessible and digestible. As a strong supporter of rheumission, she continues to create a pathway to humanizing healthcare. I look forward to her pivotal role as part of rheumission’s Patient Advisory Council.

Patient Advocacy Leaders

Additionally, the leaders of patient advocacy and health innovation are propelling us toward a brighter future. With their strong leadership skills and lived experiences, they are occupying pivotal roles in the healthcare space.

Arianna Blaine is a PsA and PsO patient advocate with experience in the digital health realm including consulting, clinical program strategy, and product management. She advocates for more support and research, specifically for reimagining autoimmune disease. Her expertise lies in developing evidence-based products, specifically in end-to-end project management and cross-functional stakeholder management for the go-to-market launch process.

Jen Horonjeff and Ronnie Sharpe of Savvy Cooperatives have been critical in placing patients at the forefront of healthcare. They created a platform aiming to bridge the gap between health innovators and individuals with lived experiences of illness. Their platform connects patients with healthcare professionals to collaborate on patient-centered solutions, emphasizing empathy and understanding in healthcare innovation. In particular, rheumission has utilized it in founding our Patient First Strategy, standing at the forefront of our patient-first mission.

Following her diagnosis with multiple autoimmune diseases, Lilly Stairs, has found her way to the forefront of patient advocacy. As the founder of Patient Authentic and the Chronic Boss Collective, she dedicates herself to the autoimmune community. With a background in marketing and stakeholder relations, she collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to create professional development events. Her Chronic Boss Collective aims to support ambitious businesswomen living with autoimmune diseases to pursue their goals while prioritizing their health.

Health Innovation Leaders

Furthermore, rheumission has also had the pleasure of partnering with individuals such as Andrea Kaufman Wool, CEO of Autoimmune Strong, and Tiffany Westrich-Robertson, CEO of the International Foundation for Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis (AiArthritis). Andrea offers an online fitness regimen that provides a safe and effective approach to managing autoimmune disease and chronic pain. With her diverse set of skills ranging from marketing to project management, Tiffany focuses on business relationships, patient-centered research and education, and policy issues related to access to care.

Molly Fuller has been supporting progress in the autoimmune community through human-centered and service design methods and product management. She has utilized strategy and business planning, metric and data design, and product management techniques to improve healthcare experiences.

As the founder of Pictel Health, Katie McCurdy has dedicated her company to visually narrating patient stories. Through collaborative sketching, user engagement, problem-solving, and visualization, she has designed mobile and web products. These products have been offered to various healthcare stakeholders, improving service experiences within the healthcare system.

Conclusion

In conclusion, one thing is abundantly clear: the rheumatology community has created a sea of passionate individuals dedicated to reshaping the landscape of autoimmune diseases. Rheumission stands as a beacon of change, uniting passionate individuals dedicated to a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion. Through our collective efforts, we are igniting a revolution in autoimmune care, transforming healthcare for the better.

Driven by the online information explosion, patients have become more educated and proactive in their care, transcending their traditional passive recipient roles. Today, many patients actively participate in meaningful discussions about treatment options, contribute to the co-creation of their care plans, and share decision-making with primary and specialist clinicians. Patients are becoming partners in their own care, and the role of influencer advocacy in this change cannot be understated.

Additionally, as we embark on this collective mission, I encourage you to join us in exploring rheumission and witnessing firsthand how we are helping to revolutionize the autoimmune landscape. Together, let us catalyze change, elevate voices, and shape a future where autoimmune diseases are met with understanding, support, and innovation!
